Fair Warning .......

After all the kerfuffle having to change over to a new blog earlier on in the year, producing posts has not been as easy or fun as it used to be. Since Live Writer died, the positioning of pictures has become the real bane of my life, so after 15 odd years of pretty consistent blogging I've decided that from January 1st 2025 I shall be going out to pasture! I may still post the odd picture or two as a record of my latest project, but I won't be writing up or photographing any of the process, because, sometimes, that can actually take longer than the making itself. As a blogger, I am now something of a dinosaur, if I were starting out now I'd have my own YouTube channel, but with my Brummie accent, I don't think the world would still ever be quite ready for that! Anyway, with six months to go, there's still plenty of time for a few more projects and ideas so let's see what happens .........

Slight Changes To My Craft Room.

Just before Christmas I finally got doors put on the open shelves in my craft room/spare room, it took me eighteen months to pin my incredibly busy "man what does" down to a date, but we got there in the end!  I wish I'd had it done when I first had the shelves put in, to start with, it would have cost me an awful lot less, but my reasoning before was that if they were cupboards then my craft stash would gradually spread into them, but as it was, it did anyway!

Way back when, when the room was solely used as a spare bedroom.

Then, after a year or so I changed the bed for a sofa bed so that I could use the room to craft in rather than in the lounge ..........

Still a bedroom, a few more changes, but still not right

I think that's really when the craft boxes began to sneak in and then for convenience, I decided I wanted to keep the bedding in the same room too. The shelves were really deep, which is why they could easily be turned into cupboards.  So all the bric a brac  found new homes, either around the flat or via the local charity shops.

Christmas 2024

I am really happy with it all now, I spent a good few days sorting out boxes and then sorting them out again, donating all the surplus craft stuff to school, or again, charity shops, but I think I still need to do it all again in the next week or so to really hone things down.

So far it's working pretty well, I can craft to my hearts content and then simply close the door on the mess when I'm done for the day, then, when I have a visitors, I just fold down the table and put the chair to the side, in order to get the bed out, voila!

Decoupaged Travel Bag/Child’s Suitcase - Part One

When you spot a small, well made, child’s suitcase for just £1 in your Evesham charity shop of choice, it would be rude not to make a considered purchase ……..

……. especially when I need some kind of flight bag for travelling light for our family trip to Euro Disney in May, a trip we were supposed to make before the dreaded Covid hit!

I started by painting the case with emulsion paint (???? I know, I know!!!), not sure if at this stage it that was the most sensible thing to do, but I plan to give the case several coats of varnish once it completely covered to be on the safe side.

Painting the plastic hardware was a nightmare, I should have used an undercoat, but you know me I like to skip the odd step, however I got there in the end, although this frustration was the reason I put the project on hold for a few weeks.

I also coloured the red trim on the case and zipper with a marker pen (duh) ……so perhaps, at the moment, this isn’t a case to use in the rain (???) …… however, when it’s all but finished I also plan to go over it again with a permanent black pen.

As I didn’t exactly know what I was doing, I started covering the front of the case with flowery scrapbook paper and looking at the picture above, it didn’t look bad ……….

…… but then, aghhhhhh, please forgive the sacrilege, I started to add torn strips from the very colourful pages of a beautiful Kaffe Fassett book, I know, I know!

The book came from the free, second hand book shop in town
and I chose it (making a donation) with this sort of project in mind, but with slight guilty feelings. Then before I knew it, all the scrapbook paper had disappeared!

When the glue (extra strong, handyman PVA) was dry, to help blend the colours, I went over all the white edges with a green ProMaker pen.  Again, before it’s finished, I’m not sure that this was a good decision, as I think I’ve lost the vibrancy of the colours …… and I don’t really like the colour green, so wish I’d gone for a pink or purple instead, but hey ho!

Then I needed to tackle the back, which was a lot more fiddly because of the added hardware. This is the stage I am at the moment .....

The sides now need filling using the same process, but don’t have a clue how it’s all going to end, triumph or tears, it’s in the laps of the crafting gods, but I’m really trying to be fearless. So, see you next week, regardless of whether it turns out to be trash or treasure ……!

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome ......

Coming soon, 29th January 2024 .........

For the next little while I can only promise one post per week on a Monday, with an occasional  one on a Tuesday, when I might have a little titbit to pass on. Unfortunately, over this past 2/3weeks, all my New Year crafting time has been swallowed up by having to sort out this whole Google picture debacle and then getting to grips with setting up two new blogs using an interface I am not that happy with  ...... so please bear with me and let's see how it all goes!
